Failure Mode 1: Organic Matter Infiltration
Generally speaking, this form of failure is catastrophic. All the membranes in the system soak in a very short time (several hours), and the system is paralysed. The consequences for large-scale industrial production are unimaginable. This form of failure must be considered in the design phase of preventive measures, can not appear in practical application, which is the professional engineer of Ajik's ability to watch the house.
Failure Mode 2: High Temperature Damage
This damage mode only occurs in the first stage and affects the second stage at most. High temperature damage can not be restored, so effective measures must be taken to avoid it at the design stage. Ejik's professional engineers are experienced in this field.
Failure Mode 3: Freezing Damage
When the cold wave arrives, if the anti-freezing measures are not taken in time, once the membrane freezes, it will cause damage to the membrane, and the damage can not be restored. Ejik's professional engineers considered this issue at the design stage, so customers need not worry about it.
Failure Mode 4: Decreased Removal Rate
This is a common, slight and easily recoverable failure. According to the reasons for the decrease of removal rate, corresponding measures can be taken to avoid and recover. For example, there are many solutions to the problem of decreasing removal rate caused by the decrease of acid flux in membrane ammonia removal applications. Specifically, technical support can be provided by professional engineers of Ajik.
In a case of ammonia removal, the removal rate fluctuated sharply from - 4% to 66%, which was due to the influence of some substance in raw water on the membrane. These materials are not taken seriously by the engineers of the system design, and the causes of the problems are difficult to find. The analysis and evaluation of these substances in raw water is known-hows of Ejik's system design. It is recommended that customers adopt the system design of Ajik to avoid unexpected failure problems of other engineering companies.
Failure Mode 6: Low Ammonium Salt Concentration
There are many reasons why the concentration of ammonium salt discharged can not meet the design requirements. First of all, hydrophobic membrane contactors should be used, such as: the penetration pressure should be higher than 0.6 MPa, which is the landmark index of Ejik membrane; secondly, the number of membranes should be less. The amount of ammonia removed is constant, and the more membrane used means more water penetration, which will reduce the concentration of ammonium salt. Thirdly, the complex water balance problem caused by many factors must be considered in the system design. These possible factors are: imported ammonia nitrogen concentration, acid concentration, temperature, raw water salt concentration, the number of membranes and so on. Membrane contactor can not be simply regarded as degassing film. For the complex mass transfer process, the influence of water balance in some cases can not be ignored. In the field of mass transfer of membrane contactors, Ajik has been in the forefront of the world. Based on the test results and engineering experience, Ejik can predict and control the concentration range of ammonium salts for customers.
Failure Mode 7: Short Membrane Life
There are many factors affecting the lifetime of the membrane. The most important thing is to select the high permeability (hydrophobic) membrane. The penetration pressure (hydrophobicity) of Ajik membrane is greater than 0.6 MPa, while the pressure is less than 0.2 MPa and the pressure is more than 0.4 MPa. It takes a long time for water to penetrate. In addition, ammonia removal load, acid-base side PH, temperature, pressure balance, cleaning process will also significantly affect the membrane life. The design of prolonging membrane life must have abundant engineering experience and pay attention to the detailed parameters that affect membrane life for a long time. We observed that the membrane life of 3M company is only one year in a project. Obviously, the design of the system is very problematic.
